Flat Iron to open new Bristol steak restaurant

Flat Iron to open new Bristol steak restaurant

The steak restaurant chain, founded by Charlie Carroll, started in 2012 as a pop-up above a pub in East London with the intention of making 'great steak available for everyone'.

The restaurant chain currently has 15 branches in London, and opened its first out-of-London restaurant in Cambridge in 2023, followed by Leeds and Manchester in the summer of 2024.

Flat Iron's Bristol restaurant is set to open on Friday, December 5, at 30 Clare Street in the Old City, replacing Four Wise Monkeys.

The menu will centre on the Flat Iron steak, a cut known for its tenderness and flavour and sourced from the feather blade.

It will also feature specials, including burgers, made using beef from the Flat Iron herd in Thirsk, Yorkshire.

Sides will include Flat Iron's beef dripping chips, creamed spinach and roast aubergine with tomato and basil.

The restaurant's drinks menu will offer a selection of wines, including Flat Iron's own Malbec, blended by the Flat Iron team using grapes from the Limoux region in southern France's Languedoc.

Additionally, the menu will also feature draft beers, cocktails, and house fizzes.

The design of the restaurant will follow Flat Iron's philosophy of stripping back historic buildings to uncover and celebrate their original character with interiors that have been carefully restored and layered with reclaimed materials, oak panelling, vintage furniture and warm, welcoming textures.

Working closely with British farmer Charles Ashbridge, Flat Iron rear their own herd of Flat Iron cattle in Thirsk, Yorkshire, where they are now focusing on Wagyu.

Flat Iron has also announced plans for a new restaurant in Newcastle in 2026.
