Braden Shewmake hit a two-run single in the top of the eighth inning to break a tie game and lead the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to a 5-3 victory over the Buffalo Bisons on Sunday at Sahlen Field.
The RailRiders (36-15) took the series, 4-2, and lead the International League East second-half standings by three games over Syracuse, which travels to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for a six-game set starting Tuesday.
Riley Tirotta hit a two-run single in the third to give Buffalo a 2-0 lead. The Bisons added to their lead when Rainer Nunez scored on a Zach Messinger wild pitch.
The RailRiders rallied in the seventh when Andrew Velazquez's sacrifice fly scored T.J. Rumfield and Duke Ellis hit a two-run double to tie the score at 3.
Shewmake's single scored Spencer Jones and Jeimer Candelario, Kervin Castro pitched a clean eighth with one strikeout and Joel Kuhnel locked down his fifth save of the season.
The RailRiders-Mets games Tuesday-Friday start at 6:35 p.m., Saturday's game is at 6:05 p.m. with Sunday's game at 1:05 p.m.
