Keeping with our spotlight on Roky Erickson this week, for today's Tuesday's Gone, we're throwing it all the way back to his original band, the pioneering 13 Floor Elevators. In this remarkable footage from 1966, we find Erikson and company kicking it poolside and jamming their seminal hit "You're Gonna Miss Me". Musically inspired by traditional jug bands and R&B, combined with the group's own experimentation, "You're Gonna Miss Me" was influential in developing both psychedelic and garage rock and was one of the earliest rock compositions to utilize the electric jug. Accordingly, critics often cite "You're Gonna Miss Me" as a bona fide garage rock song, as well as a classic of the counterculture era. Check out this awesome time capsule below:
