Residents' concerns as plans for homes on Green Belt land are outlined

CONCERNED residents in Guiseley and Yeadon are urging others to have their say on Leeds Local Plan.

A spokesperson for the residents said: "In July, Leeds City Council issued a consultation for the housing section of the revised Local Plan, which will be in place up to 2042 and which is calling for over 1200 houses to be built in our area.

"Although assurance has been given that no decisions have been made yet as to where those houses will be built, it is important that residents have their say in such a far-reaching Plan, and local people are urged to respond to the consultation before the deadline of 15th September. There are serious implications for the area, what with development at the airport, in Menston and Burley too, all adding to an overloaded infrastructure.

"The sites have been put forward by landowners often advised by developers, and the Plan shows that in Guiseley, nine out of the 10 sites are part of the Green Belt, (which the Government stipulates should be the last option to be used for house-building), whilst in Yeadon, the sites shown are mostly for employment, car parking and storage as part of Leeds Bradford Airport's expansion plans.

"To see the Plan, go to https://leedslocalplan.commonplace.is - (you may have to Log In) - scroll down to 'Assessment of potential sites' - Guiseley and Yeadon are now part of 'Outer North West' - and respond from there, or respond via email, [email protected], by phone 0113 3787993, or letter - Local Plan Consultation, Policy & Plan Group, Merrion House 9th floor East, 110 Merrion Centre LS2 8BB.
