Consumer Cos Up, But Weekly Gains Limited on Rate Outlook -- Consumer Roundup

Consumer companies rose, but remained slightly lower for the week, amid uncertainty about how long the Federal Reserve's rate-cutting path would last.

"The Fed remains in data-dependent mode, awaiting evidence that either growth or inflation deserves more attention than the other," said Naomi Fink, chief global strategist at money manager Amova Asset Management. Amova's key takeaway from Fed Chairman Jerome Powell's comments on the Fed action was the caveat that there was now "no risk-free paths" for the central bank.

The SPDR S&P Homebuilders exchange-traded fund rose modestly for the week.

Late Thursday, Lennar fell for a fourth consecutive quarter as it continues to offer aggressive incentives to stimulate sales in a dormant housing market.
