Posts 4 What Is Measles?
If you believe you may have been exposed to Measles, you should see your doctor to avoid the risk to yourself and the risk of spreading it. Measles is brought on by a virus that settles on surfaces and spreads easily through the air. The infection by this virus can be avoided with its vaccine. Rubeola is another name for measles and it used to be a common childhood illness.
According to the Mayo Clinic, the majority of measles patients recover in ten days or less. Usually, it doesn't result in chronic health problems. Measles, however, can be dangerous and even fatal. This is particularly true for individuals with significantly compromised immune systems and children under the age of five.
Measles symptoms typically appear 7-14 days after contact with the virus, including fever, cough, runny nose, and watery eyes. White spots in the mouth may appear within 2-3 days. A rash commonly spreads from the face to the arms and legs. The virus can be easily spread, with 90% of unvaccinated individuals likely to be infected when around someone with measles.
