What Marc Guehi is doing on transfer deadline day as he prepares for potential Liverpool medical

Now that Liverpool's pursuit of Alexander Isak is more or less done and dusted, the Reds' focus will likely turn towards Marc Guehi.

The centre-back has been on Arne Slot's radar for some time now, and since he's entered the final 12 months of his contract at Selhurst Park, Steve Parish is weighing up the options he has.

For the entirety of the summer transfer window, Parish has been adamant that Guehi cannot be allowed to leave for nothing at the end of the season.

And, since the Eagles have failed to sign a replacement for their captain, the Englishman's Anfield switch has been somewhat delayed.

That is, even though Liverpool are now confident that a deal can be struck.

For the last few weeks, it's been clear that both Liverpool and Guehi have wanted this transfer to go through.

And, despite the Englishman's desire to leave and take the next step of his career with Liverpool, he hasn't kicked up a fuss and has still been one of Oliver Glasner's best players.

With there now being very little time for all the particulars of a deal to take place, it feels like it's now or never for the transfer of the centre-back.

As per a fresh report from Sky Sports, it seems like Guehi is ready and raring to go as he's now waiting to be permitted to undergo his medical.

"To that end, the Brighton defender Igor Julio is currently undergoing a medical before sealing a move to Selhurst Park - although the Eagles have concerns that West Ham may make a late move to try to persuade Igor to join them," they wrote.

"Until Igor is confirmed, Palace are adamant they will not let Guehi leave.

"Sky Sports News has been told Liverpool want to make sure they have all the medical provisions in place and ready, should a deal be struck, and Guehi would then be given permission to travel to try to complete a move.

"The Palace captain is understood to be 'in the area' and awaiting further developments."

As has been mentioned several times before, Guehi and Giovanni Leoni were Slot's only central defensive targets this summer.

And, even though many fans didn't expect the Reds to end up with Crystal Palace's captain among their ranks, it certainly feels like that's the way things are heading.

There's no hiding from the fact that Guehi is an exceptional player, and with the recent form that Ibrahima Konate has been in, he's got a good chance at nailing down a starting spot.

As long as Palace can get their act together and finalise the transfers they need to replace their captain, the Reds could end up with one of the best transfer windows of all time.
