Trump poised to sign executive orders Friday afternoon

WASHINGTON (TNND) -- President Donald Trump is set to sign executive orders at the White House on Friday afternoon.

A news conference is scheduled in the Oval Office for 3 p.m. EST.

It's been a busy week for the president, who earlier on Friday was honored when FIFA presented him its inaugural peace award.

A day prior, he participated in a signing ceremony with the President of the Republic of Rwanda and the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They inked a historic deal aimed at ending a war in eastern Congo and opening the region's critical minerals for the U.S. government and American companies.

He also met with the family of the National Guardsman who was seriously hurt in the recent attack in Washington.

"The great family of Andrew Wolfe -- Our wonderful National Guardsman who was badly injured protecting the Capital of the United States of America," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

"He is in the process of healing. His parents, brother, and all of his friends are praying. I just met them in the Oval Office -- They are fantastic American Patriots!" he added.

The post included a photo of Trump and the first lady alongside Wolfe's parents and younger brother.

"They have spirit and they love our country so much -- you wouldn't believe," Trump said of the family during a Christmas Tree lighting ceremony, which was held on Thursday night.

Trump on Wednesday morning announced the "full and unconditional" pardon of Rep. Henry Cuellar, a Democrat who represents Texas, as well as Cuellar's wife, Imelda.

In 2024, Cuellar was indicted by the Department of Justice on conspiracy and bribery charges in connection with an investigation between U.S. businesses and Azerbaijan.

"For years, the Biden Administration weaponized the Justice System against their Political Opponents, and anyone who disagreed with them. One of the clearest examples of this was when Crooked Joe used the FBI and DOJ to 'take out' a member of his own Party after Highly Respected Congressman Henry Cuellar bravely spoke out against Open Borders, and the Biden Border 'Catastrophe," Trump wrote in a separate Truth Social post.

Later on Wednesday, he unveiled a "reset" of federal fuel-economy standards for vehicles. The White House said Trump's plan will save American families "$109 billion in total over the next five years" by resetting the Biden Administration's "costly and unlawful" Corporate Average Fuel Economy, or CAFE, standards.

On Tuesday, the president held a cabinet meeting, where Department of War Secretary Pete Hegseth denied a report from the Washington Post that claimed he said to "kill everybody" after two survivors of an alleged Venezuelan drug boat were witnessed holding on to a destroyed vessel that had been targeted by the U.S.

Trump also said the U.S. is poised to accelerate its military attacks on Venezuela's alleged drug-carrying boats by implementing land strikes.

"Every boat we knock out, we save 25,000 American lives. If you look at our numbers, the drugs coming in through sea are down 91%," Trump told reporters during a news conference on Wednesday.

"But it's down and we're going to start very soon on land and I'm sure you're very thrilled to hear that," he added.
