Triple-zero operations in Victoria suffered a major power outage overnight, forcing dispatchers to co-ordinate emergency response operations using pen and paper.
The major power outage at Triple Zero Victoria's Burwood dispatch centre knocked out the computer-aided dispatch system about 12.30am on Wednesday morning, with the software also failing at Williams Landing and Ballarat.
A spokesman for the emergency service operator said dispatchers were still able to take calls, with backup measures used to minimise the impact of the outage.
"Triple-0 calls from the community continued to be taken throughout a power issue that caused an unplanned outage of (the) computer-aided dispatch system (CAD) at 12:30am," the spokesman said.
"Usual backup measures were enacted to minimise impact to the community until CAD resumed normal operations, and the cause of the power issue is being investigated.
"Our staff are highly trained in Victoria's CAD backup procedures, which are consistent with all other Australian jurisdictions."
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan said she had been advised that no emergency calls were missed during the outage, although the matter was being "thoroughly investigated".
"I want to thank the hard-working staff at triple zero, there are extensive and intensive backup protocols for the highly trained staff to deploy should a situation like this arise, as it has overnight," Premier Allan said.
"The cause of the power failure is still being investigated. I've not got any advice that there was any impact on the community. If there is, of course, that information will be updated over the course of today."
