Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has been named winner of the Goal of the Month award in England's Championship.

His stunning curler for Leicester City against Charlton Athletic earned the accolade for August, a strike that also proved decisive in a hard-fought 1-0 victory where he was named Man of the Match.

According to the Championship, the 22-year-old forward topped the fan vote ahead of Derby County's Callum Elder, Watford's Nestory Irankunda, and Coventry City's Victor Torp.

A former Dreams FC prodigy, Issahaku has also been a standout performer for Rayo Vallecano this season, featuring in every La Liga game of the new campaign.

Reflecting on the award, the Ghana international described it as a special honour and was quick to credit his teammates for their role in his latest achievement.

"I'm really pleased and very proud to have won Goal of the Month. That goal was special, especially after missing so much football last season," he said after receiving the award.

"It wasn't just down to me, though; the whole team played well that day. Charlton are a good side, but we fought hard and got the three points.

"Scoring that winner was a reward for all the effort. I always try to give everything, so it means a lot when I manage to score and help the team.

"Thanks to my teammates, the staff, all the fans - their belief drives me on. Let's keep going and hopefully there are lots more moments like this ahead."

Issahaku is enjoying a good start to the season for Leicester, having scored two goals and delivered an assist in five matches.
