Darlene Vertullo, the former Nashua resident facing felony theft and fraud charges for allegedly stealing $688,500 from her employer, NextGen Mortgage, between March 2019 and November 2023, waived formal arraignment Wednesday in Nashua district court.
Vertullo, 49, is accused of embezzling the funds from NextGen "in her capacity as the company's controller," according to Attorney General John Formella.
She allegedly "manipulated the company's payroll systems to make unauthorized payments to herself, including fictitious reimbursements for nonexistent expenses," Formella stated in announcing Vertullo's arrest a month ago.
Vertullo remains free on bail pending her next appearance in Nashua district court, which is a probable cause hearing scheduled for 8:15 a.m. June 26.
Authorities charged Vertullo with two Class A felonies, one accusing her of theft and the other with fraudulent use of a credit card.
