COLUMBIA -- Azalea Coffee Bar is growing, not through a second location, but with a new addition to the back of the coffee shop's current building, the business announced on social media.
The popular local coffee shop currently hosts a coffee bar with limited bar seating as well as a few tables and a couch in its building at 2700 Devine St. In a social media announcement, Azalea's owners said they considered opening a second location but decided they loved the Devine area so much, "why not just grow here?"
The expansion will include a kitchen as well as more seating. In a comment, the shop said the new room should add up to about 1,000 square feet.
"Thank you for supporting us these past 4.5 years! It's because of this amazing community that we are able to grow," Azalea said in the shop's social media announcement.
The coffee shop also hinted at more news coming in the near future with four emojis: a bagel, a female basketball player, a TV and a glass of wine.
"We have other fun things in the works and can't share everything just yet, but will have more updates soon," the post said.
Azalea Coffee Bar opened on Devine Street in 2021 as a female-focused coffee shop centered on inclusivity. It often partners with local women and minority-owned businesses and hosts a wide variety of events, including a banned book club.
It is open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
