Reports: Leverkusen part ways with ten Hag after two months

Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly parted ways with coach Erik ten Hag after just two months on the job amid a poor start into the Bundesliga season.

Sky TV and the Bild paper said that ten Hag was no longer in charge, but there was no official confirmation from the club.

Former Ajax and Manchester United coach ten Hag, 55, succeeded Xabi Alonso, who moved on to Real Madrid, on July 1 and has a contract until 2027.

The 2024 Bundesliga and German Cup champions Leverkusen managed only one point from their first two league matches: a 2-1 home defeat against Hoffenheim and a 3-3 draw at Werder Bremen, where they squandered a two-goal lead against 10 Bremen players.

Kicker sports magazine also said that ten Hag's end was near not only because of the results but also due to internal conflicts, saying he has "lost crucial credit at all levels" at the club.

Leverkusen bosses did not back him before or after Saturday's match in Bremen.

Ten Hag oversaw a rebuild of the team during his weeks in charge, after many key players led by Florian Wirtz, Jonathan Tah and Granit Xhaka left in summer.
