Construction of LibertyStream Infrastructure Partners' lithium carbonate refining unit has been completed, and the unit is on the way to Texas to be commissioned for field operations, the North American technology company said on Aug. 26.

The unit can produce up to 10 tonnes per annum of lithium carbonate produced from oilfield brine. Output can be tailored to either be industrial-grade or battery-grade.

"This milestone brings us to the final stage before commercial engagement with future customers," President and CEO Alex Wylie said in the press release. "Commissioning the unit in Texas will provide the bulk samples and quality validation required for offtake agreements and future sales."

The company also said that its executive chairman of the board of directors Marty Scase has retired from the board to pursue other ventures, effective Aug. 25.

"Marty and I have worked together a long time with LibertyStream and other enterprises," said John McEwen, LibertyStream's inventor and CTO. "His presence will be missed as we continue to advance LibertyStream's technology and drive toward commercial production. I wish Marty all the best".
