Rain chances going up for the weekend

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - NOAA'S Weather Prediction Center has put us in a marginal (5%) risk of some flash flooding both Sunday and Monday due to a weak area of low pressure that could develop in the NE Gulf.

While there is still some timing differences in both the EURO and the American forecast models they both show a really good chance of seeing some rainfall on both Sunday and Monday.

With the ground still very saturated due to the heavy rain from earlier this week any additional amount of heavy rain will cause some potential for some minor flooding over the 3 day weekend.

Friday is looking good for the beaches as we will see mostly sunny skies with temperatures warming to around 90 degrees with a heat index approaching 100. There is only a small chance for a few showers and most of the storms will be moving east well east of I-75.

Saturday a bit more moisture moves in and the rain chances increase to 50% for scattered storms with most of them in the late afternoon and evening.

Sunday looks to be partly cloudy to mostly cloudy with a 60% chance for showers and storms scattered about. Some of the rain could be heavy at times.

Labor Day we will see variable cloudiness with a good chance for storms. Once again some of the storms could produce some heavy rain.

For boaters the winds and seas will be light on Friday and Saturday, but look for the seas and winds to be a little higher with any storms that could be around.
