Coding for All: Malta significantly surpasses the European average as two new schemes announced - The Malta Independent

During a press conference addressed by the Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects, Silvio Schembri, this year's EU Code Week was officially launched. This Europe-wide initiative encourages and promotes coding as an essential part of the digital lives of every Maltese and Gozitan citizen.

Minister Schembri highlighted the significant progress Malta has made in strengthening a more digital, connected, and innovative society that is ready for the future. He explained, "Last June, according to the Digital Decade Report published by the European Commission, Malta achieved a 96% level of digital proficiency -- far above the European average."

Two new schemes were launched during the conference as part of a national initiative:

The minister thanked the MDIA for leading this initiative, as well as Microsoft, the publishers of Minecraft, and Gaming Malta for their support.

Kenneth Brincat, Chief Executive Officer of the MDIA, emphasised that as an authority looking ahead, the goal is to foster a digital lifestyle, strengthen and encourage careers that offer quality jobs in the technology sector. "We are ready to continue reinforcing Europe's digital transformation role and to ensure that our education system is future-ready, paving the way for a truly digital Malta," said Mr Brincat.
