C&S Church marks 100 years

The Cherubim and Seraphim Church has marked its centenary anniversary with a week-long programme in Lagos that drew worshippers from across Nigeria and the diaspora.

The celebration, which coincided with the Annual General Conference of the Morning Star Church, commemorated 100 years since the church was founded on September 9, 1925, by the late Saint Moses Orimolade Tunolase Ajagunmokadi, the first Baba Aladura.

The anniversary opened on Monday, September 8, with a Praise Night concert, followed by a centenary documentary on Orimolade's life, mission and the church's global expansion.

One of the highlights was the ordination of new leaders, which organisers described as a symbolic moment of continuity and renewed commitment to the church's mission.

On Sunday, members in white garments staged a parade across the Festac-Amuwo Odofin axis before converging at the Morning Star Cathedral, Festac Town, for a thanksgiving service.

Preaching on the theme, '...And will comfort them and make them rejoice from their sorrow' (Jeremiah 31:13), the Spiritual Father of the Morning Star Church, Most Eminence Baba Aladura Joseph Adenaike, said the celebration marked a new covenant of revival and growth for the church.

Quoting Psalms and Isaiah, he declared that God had turned the church's mourning into joy but warned members against attitudes that could endanger their spiritual destiny.

"When I took over, I told you that I would not lead you to hell. But now, God says I should tell you: do not lead yourself to hell," he said, urging members to shun malice, disobedience, bitterness and unforgiveness.
