Juneau County man arrested for OWI after crashing stolen vehicle into building in Hillsboro

A Juneau County man is accused of crashing a stolen vehicle into an unoccupied building in Hillsboro early Friday morning.

After investigating the crash, Hillsboro police arrested 20-year-old Evan Harrison from rural Wonewoc for criminal damage to property, operating a vehicle without owner's consent, reckless driving and operating while intoxicated.

Vernon County Dispatch received an automated crash detection alert followed by a call from someone familiar with the suspect at 2:34 a.m. Friday.

Hillsboro Fire Department crews located a white Kia Sorento that had crashed into a building at 3:20 a.m. near the intersection of High Avenue and Darcy Drive. There was significant damage to the vehicle and building.

Vernon County Dispatch contacted a Hillsboro police officer familiar with the caller. The police recognized the caller as a juvenile who was traveling with an unknown male earlier that night.

A deputy later stopped two males walking near the crash scene, identifying them as the juvenile caller and Harrison.

Law enforcement said they uncovered additional evidence linking Harrison to the crash and car theft. Harrison was booked into the Vernon County Detention Center and placed on a probation hold.

The investigation is ongoing. The Vernon County District Attorney's Office has not filed any charges yet in court.
