New wildfire burning in Mono County, east of Yosemite National Park

MONO COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) -- A new wildfire started Thursday afternoon in Mono County.

The Inn Fire started around 3:35 p.m. and is located off Highway 395 and Mono Inn Road, south of Mono City, northeast of Yosemite National Park.

Evacuations and road closures are in effect Friday afternoon.

U.S. 395 between Lee Vining and Mono City in Mono County is expected to remain closed through this afternoon and into the evening.

The closure could extend into the overnight hours and weekend as crews continue to fight the fire and clean up the damage it left in its path.

Drivers traveling on U.S. 395 between Bridgeport/Reno/Tahoe and Bishop/Inyo County/Southern California will need to take detours to get around the closure.

Southbound traffic should use State Route 167 (or NV 208 at Holbrook Junction) while northbound traffic should use U.S. 6 in Bishop.

Either detour will take vehicles into Nevada, and drivers are encouraged to get fuel and other necessary supplies before taking these alternate routes.

Caltrans District 9 will continue to post updates on this closure as they come in from the field.

The fire has grown to 540 acres.
