ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Police Department has increased their patrols and presence on State Road 2 and US 20 near the Amazon Web Services data center construction site.
The increase is in response to neighbors complaints about backed up traffic, a rise in speeding throughout the area and a high volume of crashes.
Patrols that had previously been handling winter weather crash assistance will be moved to cover the area now that temperatures have risen.
One neighbor ABC57 spoke with on Monday said getting to work in the mornings has been more difficult and even dangerous as a result of the construction in the area.
Police are working with INDOT, the St. Joseph County Engineer and Amazon to ensure safety in the area.
Extra patrols to monitor speeding and other traffic violations started Monday morning.
