A North East-based training provider has been approved to deliver new engineering qualifications.
NC Group has received formal approval from Pearson to offer Level 4 Higher National Certificates (HNCs) and Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) in engineering, making it one of a select group of independent UK providers with this status.
HNDs are a step above HNCs and are equivalent to the second year of a bachelor's degree.

Liam Noble, managing director at NC Group, said: "We're delighted to see such strong demand for the HNC in Engineering.
"When we secured Pearson approval, our goal was to expand progression pathways beyond Level 3 Apprenticeships for both our learners and employers.
"To welcome twelve learners from such a high calibre of companies shows the confidence industry has in our approach."
So far, NC Group has enrolled 12 learners from employers including 3M, Katmex, Ineos, Harrison Packaging, Ricor North East, Hydram, Pragmatic Maintenance and Reliability, and the Invest People Group.
The HNC is equivalent to the first year of a bachelor's degree and can be completed part-time over two years.
Graduates can progress to an HND or apply for entry into the second year of a degree programme.
NC Group's delivery model differs from traditional college day release, designed to offer flexible training that fits around shift patterns and workplace schedules.
Courses are led by industry practitioners and designed to balance academic learning with practical skills that are used in the workforce.
Mr Noble said: "We are providing an educational pathway that works for learners and employers.
"Small cohort sizes mean each learner benefits from tailored support, while businesses know their staff are developing skills directly relevant to their sector."
Learners can study the HNC as part of a Level 4 Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship, a Level 4 Lead Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship, or as a standalone qualification.
The course offers specialist pathways in areas such as fabrication and welding, as well as electrical and mechanical engineering.
Depending on business size and funding route, the organisation says the programme can be fully funded through the Apprenticeship Levy.
For smaller businesses, 95 per cent Government funding is available, or 100 per cent for learners aged 16 to 18.
The qualification is also available on a commercial basis with various flexible payment options.
Rated outstanding by Ofsted earlier this year, the organisation continues to expand with new qualifications and a growing employer base.
NC Group is now preparing for future intakes and is encouraging employers and learners to register their interest early.
