Girl shot in face and at least one man killed in New York City mass shooting

A mass shooting in the Bronx has left one person dead and four others injured, including a girl who was shot in the face, according to police.

NYPD received a call about "multiple people shot" at Burke Avenue and Wickham Avenue in Haffen Park around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.

When they arrived at the scene, officers found a 32-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his chest and a 17-year-old female with a gunshot wound to her face.

Both victims were transported to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi in critical condition, where the 32-year-old male was pronounced deceased by hospital staff, police said. He was identified as Jaceil Banks, according to PIX11. The 17-year-old female is currently listed in critical condition.

Three other victims were also taken to local hospitals: a 30-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his back, a 29-year-old female with a gunshot wound to her back, and a 42-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his arm. They are all in stable condition, police said.

Four individuals were taken into custody. Their identities have not been made public.

The investigation remains ongoing, authorities said.

Police have urged the public for more information from witnesses about the shooting.

It's not immediately clear what prompted the attack.

"I've lived here for 50 years -- I've never seen ... the area is getting gentrified, you know, there's a lot of people coming back and forth. I'm kind of shocked at what's going on because it's been peaceful lately, for the last, I'd say 10-12 years, it's been very good," Nicholas Thompson, who lives in the neighborhood, told ABC7.
