SPIDER season will be open us soon as the 'amorous arachnids' crawl indoors, looking for a mate.
House spiders can be seen all year round but soon you will see more of them as the males search for mates but people are advised to put them outside, not kill them.
Because the male spiders are at maturity, they are generally at their biggest during the autumn, specifically from September to mid-October, due to mating season.
This is also the time homeowners are most likely to see the eight-legged creatures as male spiders leave their webs to find a mate, becoming more visible and often entering homes.
Wendy Carter from Worcestershire Wildlife Trust said "I've already noticed more house spiders running around my house this year; I don't usually see them this much until September.
"House spiders can be in houses all year round but tucked away in unseen corners. Around this time of year, however, male house spiders start looking for females and it's usually these amorous arachnids that you see running across your carpet at top speed.
"Autumn is peak breeding time for many species of spider so these usually shy animals suddenly come into focus as they become intrepid adventurers looking for love. Most would prefer to be outside where there's a banquet of food on offer - from flies to earwigs and even other spiders - but Miss Perfect may be lurking in a nook or cranny in our homes so it could be worth their time searching.
"It's important to remember that they're more scared of us than we are of them and once the males are old enough to search for a mate, they don't have much time left in the world. They may take us by surprise as they dart across the floor but they're just hoping to dart from one hidden corner to another without being seen.
"We've heard lots of people say they put conkers around their rooms or they spray peppermint or other oils around doorframes but we've not heard proof that anything works. Spiders are an important part of the natural world so we'd advise people to let them be but for anyone who really can't deal with them being in the house, ask a friend to gently pop a glass over them, slide a card underneath and pop them outside."
