Rangers set to land double deal on Transfer Deadline Day

Rangers are closing in on a Transfer Deadline Day double signing but Celtic appear to have hit some obstacles.

Everton striker Youssef Chermiti and Marseille's Canada international centre-back Derek Cornelius are both reported to have arrived at the Light Blues' training ground ahead of transfers.

Chermiti, a 21-year-old, who has not scored in his 24 appearances for Everton, is set to cost about £8million.

Rangers head coach Russell Martin revealed on Sunday that last season's top goalscorer Cyriel Dessers had "probably" played his last game for the club ahead of an anticipated move to Panathinaikos.

Speculation over the future of midfielder Nicolas Raskin continue after he sat out the visit of Celtic, although the signs are the Belgium midfielder will be staying.

Martin could be looking to offload out-of-favour players such as Clinton Nsiala and Oscar Cortes.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was "hopeful" he would get the attacking reinforcements he is looking for and his club appear to be stepping up their pursuit of Hammarby winger Sebastian Tounekti.

However, reports in Sweden say Hammarby are still pondering a fresh offer worth up to £5.5million.

Ahead of any new bid, Hammarby sporting director Mikael Hjelmberg was quoted in Expressen on Sunday night saying: "Nothing is set in stone in this business. We have had a great dialogue with Seb and a clear dialogue with Celtic that we have no ambition to sell. It is not that we have made a counter-offer. We have really just said no."

Celtic could also be frustrated in attempts to sign Anderlecht forward Kasper Dolberg amid claims that Ajax have launched a bid to take the Dane back to Amsterdam.

The uncertainty is affecting possible outgoings. Adam Idah awaits the green light for a move to Swansea while winger Yang Hyun-jun has also attracted interest, with Birmingham his likely destination. Rodgers hopes to sign two strikers if Idah departs.

Shayden Morris was the first move on the final day of the transfer window in the William Hill Scottish Premiership as Aberdeen's Hampden hero departed for Luton.

The wide man, whose cross led to Kasper Schmeichel's own goal in the Scottish Cup final win over Celtic, joined League One Luton for an undisclosed fee.

Reports claim Ester Sokler could also be on his way out of Pittodrie, while Fletcher Boyd has been strongly linked with Aston Villa and Aberdeen have been linked with a move to take Kevin Nisbet back from Millwall.

Dons manager Jimmy Thelin said: "We are still looking to add players to the squad, and the hard work continues to ensure any new arrivals secured by the close of the transfer window today will positively impact the club."

Livingston announced the first Premiership arrival of the day when they signed 21-year-old West Ham right-back Junior Robinson on a season-long loan. Livi boss David Martindale is also in the hunt for a central midfielder.

Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou was working on "squeezing one in" and has been linked with a loan move for Celtic defender Stephen Welsh, while Falkirk manager John McGlynn is hopeful of signing two more players.

Hibernian are hoping to complete the loan signing of Scotland forward Lyndon Dykes from Birmingham, while Elie Youan is close to joining Legia Warsaw.

Hearts completed the signing of 33-year-old German goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow on Sunday and most of the business on deadline day at Tynecastle is expected to be in the opposite direction, with Kenneth Vargas and Musa Drammeh among those who could move on.

St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson remains eager to add a pacy striker but said on Sunday evening that "we need to get somebody out before we bring somebody in".

Dundee manager Steven Pressley reported "nothing imminent" on Sunday, but added they were "assessing the market".

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin is happy with his 14 summer signings and Kilmarnock manager Stuart Kettlewell did not envisage any more incomings after signing former Ross County right-back James Brown on Saturday.
