Howard to consider expanded deer hunt Monday

HOWARD (WLUK) - A revised deer hunting plan, with more areas to hunt, will be reviewed Monday by the Howard Village Board.

The village has been examining ways to decrease the deer population. A plan was presented to the board two weeks, but a vote was postponed to Monday to allow for public review.

According to the plan, four more areas would be added to the Deer Management Plan, in addition to the Howard Industrial Park and Howard Dog Park.

"To facilitate hunting in these areas, the DCC is recommending the Village Board approve lowering the 100-yard rule to 75 yards for these areas. The village will request another 20 nuisance permits from the DNR to be provided to hunters in these four areas. Once these 20 permits are used, additional permits will be obtained from the DNR until half of the surveyed deer in these areas are harvested," the memo states.

The Village Board meets at 6:30 p.m. in the board room, 2456 Glendale Ave.
