UCF football QB Cam Fancher ruled out for West Virginia game in Big 12 availability report

ORLANDO -- Scott Frost expected "all hands on deck" regarding his quarterback room for the first time since the end of training camp. But the UCF Knights will again be shorthanded and forced to make another change behind center due to injury.

Redshirt senior Cam Fancher was ruled out of UCF's Oct. 18 home game against West Virginia in the Big 12 Conference's initial availability report, released shortly after 10 p.m. Oct. 15. Fancher played all 90 offensive snaps in the Knights' 20-11 loss at Cincinnati last weekend, totaling 222 passing yards, 108 rushing yards and one touchdown.

"I know he played tough," Frost said following the game. "I thought he made some great throws in the first half. We missed on a couple shots; he made some other ones that got called back (due to penalties)."

Fancher exited in the second quarter of UCF's season-opener against Jacksonville State with a back injury, sustained on a targeting call from blitzing defensive back Tre'Quon Fegans. He missed the following game against North Carolina A&T and only returned to the field Oct. 4 when Tayven Jackson reaggravated a shoulder injury against Kansas.

Jackson, available only in an emergency situation last weekend, is healthy and expected to return to the starting lineup, Frost said earlier Wednesday evening on his weekly radio show with UCF play-by-play broadcaster Marc Daniels. Jacurri Brown is officially questionable for the game with a shoulder injury.

Six players are officially out for the Knights this week, most notably sophomore edge rusher Sincere Edwards. The Apopka native, who had one tackle for Pittsburgh against West Virginia last September, played just four snaps at Cincinnati.

Starting left tackle Paul Rubelt is questionable, though he finished the game last week. Owen Spell took reps at both tackle spots when the sixth-year senior was evaluated on the trainer's table.
