Man charged with attempted murder in Illinois State Police shooting in Lexington

McLean County prosecutors have filed attempted murder and other charges against an Arkansas man who allegedly shot at Illinois State Police [ISP] officers earlier this month.

Ryan Aeron Stanley Hurst, 18, of Siloam Springs, is accused of firing at Illinois State Police troopers who had pulled him over at a gas station in Lexington on the morning of Feb. 6.

Hurst was wanted in connection with an armed robbery in Texas and was allegedly driving a stolen car.

According to police, officers were moving to arrest Hurst and another 19-year-old suspect from Texas, when Hurst raised his gun and pointed it at an officer. Troopers then fired at him, injuring him. Police said Hurst returned fire from inside the suspect's vehicle.

Hurst is now out of the hospital. He was ordered to remain jailed while awaiting trial.

No officers were injured in the incident.

Hurst faces three counts of attempted first-degree murder, four counts or aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of aggravated assault.
