SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) - One of the most contested local elections of 2025 is expected to be the Southport Mayoral race.
This year, Mayor Rich Alt is once again taking on Dr. Joe Pat Hatem.
Alt beat Hatem by just two votes in 2023.
The pair have also been thrust into the spotlight recently, following a land battle involving Dr. Hatem.
Hatem believes Alt is responsible for dragging him into a disagreement involving his property and an alleyway belonging to the City of Southport, claiming it was politically motivated.
Absentee ballots are due at the Brunswick County Board of Elections office by 7:30 p.m.
