The Belkin Stage PowerGrip adds to an iPhone the grip that DSLR camera users are familiar with. Built into the grip is a battery which sends power to the handset via the MagSafe magnetic charging mat integrated into the device.
After being unveiled early this year, the product finally launched on Thursday.
An iPhone replaced a dedicated camera for many people, but handsets have disadvantages. A flat metal rectangle isn't the easiest object to hold, for example. Magnetically connecting the Belkin Stage PowerGrip to the back of an iPhone reshapes the device into something easier to, well, grip. There's a lot less chance of dropping the phone.
A shutter button on the accessory can trigger the Camera app to take a photograph via a Bluetooth connection. Or use the iPhone Camera Control instead.
The 9,300 mAh battery built into the Belkin Stage PowerGrip juices up the iPhone through its MagSafe charging mat. A small screen shows remaining battery charge, and the accessory itself gets recharged with a retractable USB-C charging cable when it gets low. While iPhones already have excellent battery life, surely no one will complain about extending it.
The grip can even be used as a stand when taking selfies.
Belkin Stage PowerGrip launched Thursday. It sells for $79.99.
