North East Indian restaurant with hundreds of top reviews is 'best in UK'

An Indian restaurant has earned more than 400 top reviews online and been branded the "best in the country."

Babaji, on Mary Street in Sunderland, has racked up 446 'excellent' reviews on TripAdvisor - the highest score possible on the site.

Its menu includes favourites such as bhaji, pakora, madras, korma and balti with a variety of meats available for each. Main curry dishes range in price from £11.95 to £14.95 in price.

Flavours of the dishes have been praised by punters who likened the establishment to authentic curry houses in India itself.

One visitor said: "We visited here last night for our anniversary. I think this is not only one of the best Indians but one of the best meals we have had in a long time.

"The whole experience was delightful including the service the staff really are a credit to management. Also the manager was very polite and just lovely.

"On to the food, it was unbelievably good. The curry was so tasty and the naan was so light and soft but I think the quality of the meat stole the show.

"From the meat platter to the lamb in our curries it was so soft and juicy."

Another customer: "Best Indian in the UK. Last time I had an Indian like this was in Goa, can't offer a better Indian absolutely fantastic, a definite must come."

A site user with the name 'chopw' said: "Came here for my daughters birthday with family and friends, the food was outstanding and very reasonably priced, the staff were also great very friendly and efficient they even brought a cake out for my daughter and sang happy birthday to her which was a lovely touch, all eight of us were really impressed with the food and most of us had different meals so it also proves how consistent the chefs are."
