President Trump defends Tina Peters, calls for her release again

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -President Trump is once again defending former Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters on social media.

In a post he made on Truth Social, President Trump said Governor Jared Polis has refused to let Peters out of jail and called for her release.

This is one of several attempts made by the president to have Peters let out of jail.

However, Dan Rubinstein, the Mesa County District Attorney said President trump doesn't have the power to pardon Peters, only the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado does.

Peters was found guilty in 2024 of tampering with election equipment and was sentenced to nine years in prison. She has eight years left in her at the time of writing this article.
