The sword-waving, swashbuckling band of Merry Men outlaws will make comedic merriment as they try to outwit a greedy prince in Sherwood Forest, March 19 through April 13, in Ken Ludwig's "Sherwood: The Adventures of Robin Hood," at The Repertory Theatre St. Louis.

Audiences will feel part of the enduring epic about the young man who believes in nothing but having a merry time while he robs the rich to feed the poor. He is surrounded by his hilarious followers including Little John, Friar Tuck and feisty adventuress Maid Marian, who pines for his heart.

The show is part of The Rep's 58th season of producing award-winning performances at the Loretto Hilton Center on the campus of Webster University. Casting for the production will be announced later this month.

"Audiences will love the action-packed, raucous romp through Sherwood Forest," said Angel Azzarra, director of marketing for The Rep. "There's a lot of visual spectacle in the show, including stage combat with flying arrows and clanging swords, daring escapades and acrobatics. This really is something you could bring a date, your kids or your parents to. It's a wonderful, laugh-out-loud swashbuckling adventure by one of the greatest comedy writers in theater."

According to his bio, Ludwig, a two-time Tony Award winning playwright for "Lend Me a Tenor," has 34 plays and musicals staged around the world and throughout the United States on any given night of the year. "Crazy for You," for example, which won the Tony and Olivier awards for Best Musical, has been running for three years on London's West End, and was performed on Broadway for five years.

Robin Hood will also mark the directorial debut of Kate Bergstrom during her tenure as Augustin Family artistic director at The Rep. While she has directed before as a guest, including the critically acclaimed "It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play" and "The 39 Steps in 2022." Azzarra said The Rep's 2025-26 season lineup, curated by Bergstrom, will also be announced during the run of the Robin Hood production.

"Working with Kate Bergstrom over the past few months has been such a boon to everyone at The Rep. She brings so much vibrancy and care to the leadership of the theater. We're all chomping at the bit to see what her first curated season will be. Something amazing, I bet," said Azzarra.

Audience members attending the show will experience adventurous pre-show activities in The Rep's lobby, a tradition that has grown in popularity. Robin Hood- and Sherwood Forest-themed cocktails, archery exhibits, a Merry Men playlist and even a surprise appearance or two by a fully decked out Renaissance King and Queen will be just a few of the activities that await them.

"You just have to see it to believe it," Azzarra said. "I think we're all overdue for a deep breath and an evening of laughter and pure enjoyment."

Tickets to the show are available online (repstl.org) or at The Rep's Box Office (130 Edgar Road, Webster Groves) from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students can purchase $20 tickets by calling the box office at 314.968.4925. Additional discounts appear regularly on the theater's Facebook and Instagram social platforms. Veterans receive complimentary tickets for the March 19 and 20 shows, which can be obtained by calling the box office or by completing the online form at repstl.org.
