A visiting rugby club praised the welcome it received in Amesbury after a memorable match.
On Saturday, October 4, Amesbury RFC hosted Footscray RUFC, a touring group from South London.
The Footscray group, known for their love of rugby, fun and camaraderie took on the Amesbury RFC Walking Rugby Squad in a lively match.
Even though they hadn't played walking rugby before, and after enjoying "refreshments" the night before, the Footscray team proved they could find their rhythm, showing a few surprising bursts of pace from those who hadn't picked up a ball in years.
The players dodged the rain, enjoying an hour of spirited fun and competition.
After the match, the teams moved to club sponsor the Kings Arms, Amesbury, where the camaraderie continued over a curry, old rugby songs and plenty of old rugby songs, with new friendships forged over the love of the oval ball.
Footscray RUFC said how welcoming and friendly Amesbury rugby club were.
Inspired by the warm reception and the joys of walking rugby, the South London club is now considering starting their own walking rugby team.
This move aims to unite former players and newcomers.
Walking rugby is an inclusive, social version of the game open to all shapes, sizes, men and women -- perfect for keeping fit, having fun and meeting great people.
Information about walking rugby can be found on the Amesbury Rugby Club's website.
