Sunbed studio with community feel celebrates 40 years in business

A SALISBURY sunbed business has celebrated its 40th anniversary.

Former customer Sarah Nettle, 41, bought Jacqui's Sunbed Studio nearly seven years ago following a 16-year career in childcare.

She celebrated the milestone with her clients on August 25.

Every customer was given a business-branded trolley token and entered into a free raffle with the chance to earn vouchers for their future visits.

Sarah, who lives in the city, said: "A lot of customers have been coming for 30 or 40 years. It's a real community shop.

"That's what drew me to taking it on; it has a familiar vibe. All the customers are really friendly. They all have a set time they come every week."

Her clients remained loyal to the business through the coronavirus pandemic and a cost-of-living crisis that saw household bills rise.

"Covid almost ended the business," Sarah said.

"Even though it's a long time ago, it's sort of just recovering from that. It's the kind of business that does go up and down through the year.

"Their support has really kept it going. They're all eager for me to pick the winning raffle tickets to see if they've won the prize!

"It's about customer care and being friendly. It's a nice little job. I look forward to going to work every day. It's a lot of hours, but it's worth it."

The unisex salon on Winchester Street has two vertical and two horizontal sunbeds. Customers can find Sarah and her dog Patsy in shop on weekdays.
